The Green Turtle Rescue

Our team coupled with another organization ( in operation keeping the ocean clean ) recently rescued a Green Sea Turtle from poachers in Lagos, “The green turtle is one of the largest sea turtles and the only herbivore among the different species. Green turtles are found mainly in tropical and subtropical waters. demographic and genetic data in an age‐based model to investigation show that this very species could be at the risk of extinction as their population continues to decrease drastically.”

It was a tug of war between our team and the poachers who are local fishermen. These fishermen explained that their net had caught the adult turtle and its hugeness had cost them to tear their fishing net into rag and that it was a must they sell it as meat in order for them to make money to buy new fishing net, they lament that fishing is their only source of livelihood and the only way they’re able to put food on the table for their family. After long hours lecture and negotiations in the stormy September weather of Lagos, our team negotiated to pay them for their fishing net and compensation amount in the release of the turtle. This offer calmed them a bit and they now listen to our team education on making sure the endangered species are saved and release back into the water if such mishap happens again. Ms. Doyin our teammate softly explained to them with pictures illustrations from wildlife safety book. They joined our team and returned the traumatized turtle back to the wild and we paid them a sum of 50,000 Naira in return.

We believe we can’t buy life but we can rescue life. Support us today by donating to our animal rescue funds.
